The etched marks inside the case are jeweler's marks, kind of a signature of the watchmaker who worked on it. If the Roman marking is on the inside of the bezel, I suspect the "A VIII" is actually "R V III (R 5 3)" . Many times we see the first 2 or 3 characters of the case s/n hand engraved on the inside of the bezel to match it to the case back.
