Are there any other markings on the back case other than the serial number, which itself doesn't seem to be a standard Bulova number...too short and doesn't correspond with 1943.
It might very well have had the back case replaced, or the entire case is non-Bulova but a generic military type screw back.
Military style watches of this type without a military issue back case are normally ID'd as Military Non-Issue.
