Couple of variations with this watch that are throwing me off.

  1. 17 jeweled movement.
  2. Dial number combination: 2,4,8,10,12 rather than 3,9,12 as shown in the adverts.
  3. Engraved vs plain. There is one advert showing this case as the Bruce, but with 15J movement and full numbered dial.

This is one of those watches that always throw us a curve ball.

Both the Cadet and Bruce seem to be 15J.

Here is basically the same watch shown in the advert above minus the engraving as the Bruce (V).

A 17 jeweled version shown as the Baldwin from 1946. Engraved case with odd numbers....still no match but maybe a variant based on the movement.

Wondering if the Minute Man inner bezel was the same size and shape for the subject watch. Might at least explain a dial/movement swap.

Purely hypothetical.

Hrmmm I don't think so.  I think that Minute Man is a bit fatter.  I've had both watches.

Hmmm. I'm seeing too many conflicts of ads vs watch. Jewel count, gold color and dial configuration. Convoy ad calls out black numerals on face and number/dot arrangement is different. Based on available info and the fact dial seems to be a perfect match to the case but not any of the ads, and dates match I'm at

Bob, could the mention of 'black figures' also relate to the sub-second hand track with numbers? That looks to be the typical black print.

"with gold dots and black figures on the handsome dial" in a one sentence statement appears to me to call out the hour markers (dots and numbers), but may also include reference to the subsecond as well, if everything is black. If numbers and dots were all gold, it would seem the description should be "gold markers with black sub-dial details" or something similar.

Hey, maybe I'm just making "world salad". I'll go with general consensus on this one.
