My Grandmother purchased this watch in 1966 for my Grandfather's 45th birthday. He wore it everyday until the day he passed. I have never seen another one like it until I came to this site. The watch that is on this site has identifying markings on the face as this one only states Bulova.
Nice watch! How did you determine 30 jewels? I'm guessing when you determined the movement model. I don't remember any ads for this, but I'd have to look again.

It was determined that this watch is 30 Jewels by my Grandfather, Bulova when they replaced the main spring about 5 years ago and recently by the Jeweler who replaced the lug.
Hello brion71, welcome to myBulova. I think it's exciting that you have your grandfather's watch. Family heirlooms are wonderful things to me. Please be sure to have it serviced regularly if you plan to wear it. It should last another lifetime if you do.
I've looked through our ad database but don't really see anything to match it to. I have it in my head that it's either a Commander model or a President model but I don't have any proof.
For now it seems to remain an 'Unknown' model. Thanks tor sharing it, it's a real beauty.

There is another member on this site (GVP) that has an almost identical watch, the only differences between their watch and mine is on the face it has 30 Jewels under the Bulova and self winding at the bottom, while mine only states Bulova.
Like GVP's watch, these are both "Unknown" models for now. Hopefully an ad will surface with time.
I'm not able to find a matching ad, and I think most all '30 Jewel' watches have that stated on the dial. It is a good match to this watch mentioned above, which is identified as Unknown or tentative Bulova 30. Is it possible that the center section of the dial on this watch has been altered due to cleaning or something else, any remnants of the lettering? I also notice the crown is incorrect - as it has the tuning fork symbol on it; which then raises a flag to me, wondering if something else is not original or has been altered.

I do know that my Grandmother purchased this watch from a pawn store in 1966 for my Grandfather. I am not sure about the center section of the dial has been replaced, but it is very possible considering that it is more like a mirror while the other example of this watch on this site is more subdued. As for the crown, Bulova replaced that when they replaced the main spring. I noticed that when we received the watch back, but didnt think anything about it.

This looks like it could be a 1963 Bulova 30 EW. I am a little on the fence as center dial of yours looks like it might be stone rather than this one that looks like its brushed metal.

Jim I agree with the variant. I also think the dial has been over cleaned removing the 30 Jewels and Selfwinding.
This example shows those parts was printed on the dial.
