We have had several detailed conversations on the LaFayette vs. Dewey, Lafayette has smooth sides on the verticals next to the crystal, while Dewey had raised "bars". We determined it was most likely the Dewey came with more than one gold finish but was not advertised as such.
There are several watches in the database initially ID'ed as LaFayette that after scrutiny we re-evaluated to be Dewey, HERE IS ONE with a pretty straight forward explanation..

The movement is dated 1931 by the Sq Shield, however the case serial # beginning with a '2' indicates it was manufactured in 1932 therefore the watch could not be 1931 as the watch case did not yet exist.
Sometimes this scenario is seen in reverse with the case being manufactured prior to the movement, the latter of the 2 dates being the logical year of production.
