Repair enamel inlay in vintage watch

Submitted by Deafboy on

Hello Everyone,

I have a vintage Bulova Deauville/Lady Lindy where some of the vitreous enamel inlay is missing. Esslinger sells a material for the purpose of replacing the inlay called Ceramit but I hear it is difficult to obtain good results. Do you have suggestions for the repair?

Two piece stem

Forum topics

I read in a google search a discussion in this forum regarding how to separate a two piece stem without yanking it out but rather turning the stem backwards with the movement hanging. Worked like a charm.

Wondering IF there is an equally simple way to rejoin the parts when the time comes. Not sure how to query the archive.

Thanks.

His Excellency KK Hands Compatibility

Hi All,

I'm looking to fit new hands to my Bulova His Excellency KK ideally in the 'fountain pen nib' style shown in the attached photo.

I would like to know if the standard hand parts (10BCC) pictured would be compatible with my model and if not where I can find ones that are.

Cheers - this is a great website!

1949 Aeronaut with BLACK dial?

Submitted by DennisBlva on
Forum topics

I recently saw a 1949 Aeronaut 17J, 8AE with a black dial on ebay. It was listed as Vintage Bulova A9 Men's Wristwatch (view in completed auctions).

I saw three 1949 Aeronauts here on the site, but all three, including any adverts. showed a WHITE dial.  I believe the one on the ebay auction was a newer, black re-dial.

My question is....did Bulova ever make a BLACK dialed '49 Aeronaut?

Thanks,

Dennis

Source for Cathedral Hands?

Hi, guys.

I don't have a big problem with collecting less than perfect watches but I do seem to be accumulating more than a few where the only big issue is the poor quality cathedral hands.  Many of them have hands like this where the color is missing like this:

Does anyone have a good source for replacements for these?

Thanks,

Tom S.

How to replace a vintage women's band

Hi, guys.

I feel like this is a probably dumb question but I can't find anything on it.  There is plenty of informatin about replacing bands on watches with spring bars.  But I'm a little bit at a loss as to how to do it with some of these vintage women's wataches that don't seem to use them.

For example, I have the watch attached which simply seems to have a bar that appears to be part of the watch.

Automatic mainspring question

Hi,

How is the automatic mainspring build up?

Is the Safety spring just one part (spring slightly smaller then the circumference of the barrel) that alows the mainspring to slip when overwound?

If so is the mainspring then just a normal mainspringspring with a normal (as in hand-wound) bridle?

If've read the Bulova self-winding watch manual but this isn't that clear to me.

Thanks in advance

Bulova Accutron Spaceview.

I have been collecting Bulova watches for over ten years and have four Spaceviews . I was under the impression that only watches with a chapter ring were genuine but I note that ones with markings on the crystal are in the data base and Bulova produced crystals with markings.

I am in the UK and note that there are quite a few Spaceviews are appearing on the market without chapter rings and not cheap either. I am guessing these are conversions and individuals appear to be jumping on the bandwagon.
