New member and hobbyist learning about servicing watches here. I have been playing with a half dozen scrap 11AFC movements and am ready to dig into a 1959 Seabee.

I am hoping someone can tell me the correct crystal for a 1959 Seabee? I have read that the diameter should be 28.2 to 28.3 mm but the one on the watch measures 28.45 mm with the rim of the case measuring 27.5 mm. It also has tons of cracks around the edges or I would reuse it. I have dug through half a dozen old GS catalogs but am coming up dry. (I know, lousy pun)

I am starting to search for my first Accutron Astronaut and I could use some opinions on what to look for.

1) Are certain dial colors rarer than others?

2) Are some bezels more desirable? (night/day vs. regular, silver vs. gold)

3) Does the bracelet matter? Is there a standard version that came with it or were there a large variety?

This information would help me better understand which models I should be ready to step up for pricewise.

Recently I bought a decent Bulova Senator with year Mark M0 on the case. The movement seems not original as it has N0 as year mark. Fortunately I have a few 11AF movements in stock (L9, M0 and M3) which leaves me with 3 options:

1) Bad luck. Leave the N0 in.

2) Replace only the N0 barrel bridge for a M0 bridge.

3) Replace the complete N0 movement for the M0 movement.

I have a question for the forum, I like Bulova and the reverso type from Jaeger lecoultre and I would like to know if Bulova released a model like the reverso of Jaeger lecoultre ?

Disassembling 10AK 21J movement and am unable to remove the canon pinion. Tried the usual presto tool, then stout tweezer, then pin vise. Won’t budge. Tried watch oil, clock oil, penetrating oil between center wheel and CP and soldering iron to apply heat hoping the oil will travel inside the CP. Have tried several rounds of this for a couple of days. All the tools will slip off while the CP stays put. Pinion is a closed top.  Anyone have similar challenge or advice? Thanks.

For some time, I have been "kind" of looking for a reasonable Bulova watch from my birth year - 1959. You guys dated a 1961 Presidente of mine and apparently the Accutron found in my dad's collection is 1961 as well - kind of  odd, guess dad was in his watch phase. We found a few Timex's and another vintage watch (seems like a Whitmire or the like). My preference is for thin watches as I have a small wrist. There are a couple of 59 Bulovas (well billed as 59s) on Ebay that have my attention. I am thinking I want an automatic.

In my father's collection of watches we came across a stainless (I believe, at least it's not rusted) Bulova Accutron, non day or date. Roman numerals. Bulova at the top. Accutron at the base of the display. I don't have it in front of me, but recall seeing M1 as a number under the case serial number. It uses a 395 battery. Also seem to recall the time adjuster to be centered, not low right when looking at the face. I am having my local jeweler clean it up and advise on further repair. The back had two circular access points - one for the battery and the other I don't know.

I recently bought a lot of three watches for $50. One was suggested to be a 60's or 70's Bulova art-deco. I didn't have my loupe with me, just a pair of reading glasses. Once home I began inspecting the watches. One is a men's 1982 day/date, stainless steel and gold plate, gold face, 7 jewel quartz movement. The next a 2010 Caravelle. I bought that one because I didn't have a Caravelle in my collection. The art-deco turned out to be a Bolivia. I have never heard of them. Decent enough watch, but not the Bulova I was expecting.

Recently I bought a 1954 Reed for restoration. I’m doubting the originality of the dial (and the crown). The “B” in Bulova is small and “Selfwinding” is missing. Everything else is exactly as it should be. Any comments? Can it be original? Should I leave it as it is, or have it restored?
