Duchess band?
I recently found my Dad's "dress" watch after his passing in December. He hasn't worn it in many years. I've cleaned it up and had the battery replaced, and voila, it's running and looks beautiful. There are only a few scratches on the crystal that wouldn't come out without being overly aggressive, and minor scuffing on the gold.
However, it's running fast, gaining approx 15 minutes in 10 hours. Can that be adjusted properly to proper time keeping? Can a local, reputable watch repair shop perform this adjustment, or does it need more work, or a particular repair shop?
If you have info or comments, feel free to emaill me at billythekid053@gmail.com as well as here on the website.
Thank you,
Bill
What a great looking Woody!!
You'll probably need to get someone who knows how to service Accutrons to adjust the timing. 15 min her 10 hrs seems a lot for something that is meant to be very accurate. It would be well worth getting a full service and hopefully someone on site can point oyu in the right direction for servicing Accutrons. You are very lucky having your fathers watch and a vintage Bulova at that!
Hello wtc88c, welcome to myBulova. You have, arguably, one of the most iconic Accutrons we see here. This is one the Accutrons that everyone covets. Finding one still sporting the original Duchess bracelet and in as good a condition as yours is a challenge many collectors face. It looks like your father treated it very carefully. I agree with Stephen (admin) that having it service by an ACCUTRON qualified watchmaker is in your best interest. Depending on where you live we might be able to make recommendations.
In terms of a model designation, we classify this as a 1972 Accutron Date & Day "Woody". Woody is a variant we use to refer to this watch although it is not official Bulova nomenclature.
Congratulations on having this wonderful keepsake from your father.
Thank you for your comments. I am truly pleased with how well it cleaned up and that it started running with the new battery replacement. I don't know how long it's been sitting idle, but a number of years at least.
As to watch repair recommendations, I live in Peachtree City, GA, considered part of the Atlanta area, to the south of Atlanta and Hartsfield airport. I'm open to suggestions, particularly on the south side.
Thank you,
Bill
