1965 accutron bowtie space view conversion recently serviced, nos spediel riptide band from 1960s, re phased for 1.55v battery recommend silver oxide type
probably will put an aftermarket crystal on it with markings that make it easier to see the time, a aftermarket factory style copy
I am not sure this is a bowtie Accutron 248. The lugs are definitely different on the 248. It does appear to be a conversion with the dial having been removed.

bowtie is what a few have calked it so I do as well until corrected, I have another style that might be the real bowtie where the top of the lugs look to overlap, will try to get that watch uploaded soon too
thanks for your input Sir
The 'Bowtie' is just a nickname for this case style and not an official model name.
As this watch is presented it's unfair to say it's a Spaceview, as it's missing a key component to be a Spaceview.....a correct crystal.
I agree with Jim, this looks like someone simply removed the dial in order to try and make a Spaceview.
We had an interesting discussion here about the 'potential' Spaceview in a bowtie case, which I tend to agree with. The linebooks I've looked at as well as Darold Hanson's 'Accutron Watches' book does not list any Spaceviews in this stye case.
I'm 99% confident in saying Bulova did not release a Spaceview in this case style.
Official linebook 214 movement known models variants with the 'bowtie' style are:
- 218
- 241
- 246
- 605
Official linebook 218 movement known models variants with the 'crossover bowtie' style are:
- Calendar "BV"
- Calendar "BW"
- Calendar "BF"
- Calendar "CA"

just about everyone who looks at the watch will think 'space view' regardless of the crystal which I plan on putting a space view crystal on it
thanks

I get why people do it, although for me personally doing so de-values real Spaceviews. Turn any Accutron 214 into a Spaceview by simply removing the dial. I know the correct hands and crystal also make a Spaceview, but I just think it's a shame that a lot of people are doing this. Again I don't believe that this particular watch was ever a real Spaceview because of the case style, but hey again this is just my opinion.
I'm hoping this website can teach collectors what to look out for when buying a vintage Bulova timepiece, especially a Spaceview which is about to becoma a whole lot more popular.
ID wise I think we simply call it a 1965 Bulova Accutron, which at least is technically correct.

I clearly stated it was a space view conversion and I am full aware it had a dial that was removed, so I need a space view crystal then to magicly label it a space view conversion ? I knew what the watch was when I purchased it, it was a conversion, if you dont want to call it a space view then dont as most that see it will say space view as there is no dial which is what a space view mostly is, I like the watch which is why I purchased it, that case style in a factory space view is rare so I went with this one, I hope you dont change parts on your 214,
I also have several factory spaceviews G models and a swiss 316 so I know and value factory models when and if you can get them, millins of accutrons were made so my spaceview conversion is not changing the value of your watch, I was given the original dial with the watch so maybe that will make you feel better
Spaceview

thank you Geoff for recognizing it, I was full aware it was a conversion when I purchased it, Im not sure what all hub bub is over wether or not it is a space view, the no dial part for me is the deciding factor and it being a 214 movement, I plan on adding a space view crystal with markings later so its easier to read
thanks again
The Bulova Accutron Spaceview was an actual model sold by Bulova over a number of short years.
Just because you remove the dial off a 214 movement watch does not make it a Bulova Spaceview, it makes it a Bulova Accutron with a missing dial.
I have no skin in the game with regards to the value of an Accutron Spaceview as I don't own any, but what I do truly value is the correct identification of these early timepieces. These so called 'conversions' only muddy the waters and offer no real value to the collector community that may seek to understand what a real Spaceview looks like and is.
You can certainly call your watch a 'space view', that is your absolute right. However for the sake of correctly IDing your watch on this site I do not support such an ID. I will await the comments from the rest of the panel before finalising an ID on your watch.
1965 Bulova Accutron would be the base ID.
Does your watch have an inner case stamp corresponding to one of these numbers?
