Bulova 1956 Senator

This is a watch I found at my deceased grandfather’s house. I assume it’s a men’s watch but I’ve been wrong before and the code on the back of the case starts with a D which somewhat could indicate it being a women’s watch from 1943. I’d like to open it to check the movement codes but am scared to as I don’t want to damage it in any way as I’ve never had any experience doing it before. Any help would be greatly appreciated in identifying it and also opening it.
