1954 Bulova with a 21J 7AA L4 stamped movement, 10K Gold filled bezel and caseback with a silver checkerboard dial, applied Gold numbers/markers and Gold hands. The crystal is slightly smaller than the standard 21.6mm x 17.6mm His Excellency, AA, and other crystals Bulova uses, and is a flat bezel style. The crystal shown fits like a glove, but may or may not be for this watch, I don't have a Rocket book to check. Nice running/looking watch with a Black croc grain leather strap. * Update 10-22-2012 Request to change from unknown to Park Lane as a result by the new ad found by Plainsman

Everytime I see one of these I feel like strapping on a "TopHat" and looking for a "Ball Room"!

Another Unknown bites the dust!!
As a complete NB I don't want to burn any bridges, but in looking over this post (researching a checkerboard watch I own - soon to be posted) I am not that sure this watch here matches the advertisement. Please count the number of "checker" squares in the advertisement verses on the actual watch face. The watch face has chekers 4 x4, the advertisment has 3x5 "checkers".

Thanks for letting us all know. I have seen another similar watch with not only more checkers on the dial, but also along the virticle bezels too.

It looks as if the dial was redone. Poorly. The checkerboard lines actually go over the hour markers.
Good observation, I will have to dig it out and pull the dial, from the picture of the movement side, it looks orginal, but who knows.
This watch is the "Park Lane" model, but the re-dial is very badly done, as mentioned by others.
Please compare cases with the earlier Academy Award from 1952, which shares the same case and dial, but as we now know or surmise, is renamed the Park Lane by 1953.
Both watches use the 7 AA movement too.
