Rare Hinged lug model. If the 1960 GS catalogue is to be believed this is the Commuter, which makes sense given the Driver style lugs. Wonderful condition, perfect glass 3 angle crystal.

Its 22.5 x 19.1. GS # CMX345-10F. Fed # MX11-225 191. I believe this could be the 'Commuter' as suggested in the 60th edition gs catalogue? I guess the name would make sense as it is a swing lug 'Drivers' Style hence Commuter....

HMMM... Well it doesn't lOOk like the "Mr. Universe" model, so I'd say you get credit for this one, Gary??? And I concur on the "driver theme" relevance... as this was when the "freeways" and "suburban sprawl" were first being pushed and thus became all the rage here, in the 50s, unfortunately!
It's not in the Jan. 1953 BB glass catalog, so it was a Christmas or first quarter of '54 release, most likely???

Question, are the hinged lugs there so the watch could be worn on the side of the wrist? Like the Curvex Ristside drivers watch. If so I think it would be pretty uncomfotable.

There are several models listed in G-S Catalog No. 60 as taking that size crystal, i.e.,
- Mr. Universe
- Envoy
- Commuter
If the only basis for calling this a Commuter is the hinged lugs, then I'm not convinced. One would not wear this on the side of the wrist like a driver's watch.
Also, I don't agree that it doesn't look like the Mr. Universe ad, as stated above.

love it when new ads help out with older ID's. Looks just like 1956 ad. It also looks like the movement date code is L2, but I can't tell, and it would not matter in light of the case L3 and the possible one year difference. Good update Nova/Fifth
