Watch looks to be in very good condition, but I cannot open case. Material is stainless steel with stainless steel band marked Speidel. Serial number on watch case is 49262152. Watch is inscribed "Dad With Love 4-3-52". My own father must have bought this watch because he enjoyed both old watches and clocks. I don't know much more than that.
Thank you for posting your father's watch. Can you tell us what number is next to the L on the back of the case please? That will determine the year for us.
L.1
Thank you-
In reply to L.1 Thank you- by Miri37
Thank you, I have changed the date to 1951 for you. That is the date code L = the 50's and 1 for 1951. There are several of these watches in the DB as Unknown, like this one https://mybulova.com/watches/1950-unknown-6552 That means we have not found an ad for it yet. We do find new ads from time to time so at some point it may get a name.
Unknown
Based on prior conversations for this model it is an unknown. Still looking for that elusive Tuxedo ad showing it came in gold filled.
The watch case itself should be white gold filled or rolled gold plate and not stainless steel.
This particular model has been difficult to ID.
Ok, so the white gold filled makes sense, since it is silver? And thank you for the new date. So the way you ID these watches is through advertisements? I'm hooked.
I wish I knew where my dad bought it - my guess is somewhere in upstate NY (the real upstate - north of Albany) or in VT.
Thanks again - M
We have a few of these on the website already and it's been driving us crazy that we haven't been able to ID them yet. ONE DAY!!

This was a special watch in the day, your father would have worn it proudly. It's a wonderful keepsake for you. To answer your question, yes, we paw through old adverts and catalogs to try help people just like you get a glimpse of the watches they found in their parents homes. It's a fun job and the pay is nothing but pure joy. Bulova was and is a marketing MACHINE which is all to our (and your) benefit. Have it serviced and wear it proudly, it's a cool watch. Is it possible that it was a gift to your grandfather from you own father?
OH - my wife grew up in the REAL upstate, on a dairy farm!
We have two ways to look up ads. One is in the Vintage Bulova Ads section of this site under the INFORMATION header. The other is in the Forum under Vintage Bulova Information Sharing then go to the decade thread. I recommend you explore the ads as they are fascinating and highlight the many models of BUlova watches thru the decades.
Great watch and a wonderful heirloom. Unfortunately, without ad confirmation
