1948 Diamond Dial 21Jewel Excellency "LL" 7AA which was started in 1949, so is this a early 1949 with 1948 movement symbol? or late 1948? or replacement movement? L3 date stamp on movement 3 (untested) diamonds Applied Gold numbers on a Champagne colored dial with Black tracks, Bulova signed 10K Gold filled bezel and back. Speidel band (October 7, 2012) Updated image 4 with picture of movement symbol 48.
The Movement datestamp is L3
1953
With the date and 21J I believe that this is a Director model.
I see the L3 but what is the case back date stamp? This could be a late 40's model with a replacement movement. Dave - are you saying 1948 Director?
The case back date stamp is 48.

If you look under the Bulova on the outside of the case back, it loks like that is L3 as well.
Which would match the movement for date.

ddean states A8 (1948) on caseback. Looks like he's right, but I can't see for sure.

His Excellency "LL", jewel count, case, dial a match, apart from the diamonds, which could have been added when bought. Advert from 1949. Date is correct.
Stunning watch, ddean!

This case was also used for the 1951 Academy Award "ZZ".

This "His Excellency" with the same case in the DB also has a gold case back.
