I have researched this bad boy and am confused as to no mark being above the B in bulova. Any idea what is going on here? I am trying to date this watch and any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, and approximate value if possible. Thanks, Vince
ps. This watch works and keeps excellent time and is in very nice condition. Definitely a keeper.
'SQUADRON'
What mark above the B in Bulova?
In reply to 'SQUADRON' What mark above by FifthAvenueRes…
As a means to date the movement there is a chart with symbols and corresponding dates of manufacture. These symbols are displayed on the 8ae above the "B" in Bulova on the works. However, mine has no mark at all. Thanks Vince
I see a Circle below, 1944 ? - the first 'SQUADRON' does not appear until 1946 in the ad database and the Dial looks more 1950's style.
Take a look around the balance.
Thanks for the reply, really helpful and I really appreciate it. Vince
Vince, You're welcome.
OK, show of hands! How many of you guys checked your 8AE movements for date symbols above the B in Bulova? I check one, just to be sure I wasn't learning something new. LOL
This looks like a Squadron with a ‘48-‘54 Brigadier dial.
It looks like the Squadron moved to this dial in 1948-1950. It is possible 1947 cases were used or it was done late in 1947.
1947 Bulova Squadron

at times 1948 movements were absent of a datecode.
The Case serial number indicates it was manufactured in 1947
'SQUADRON' indeed.
ad dated 1955 names the Yellow cased version the 'SQUADRON' "A"
"C" - White
"B" - Rose
