Received this as a hand down from my father. Looks like a mens watch, although he claimed it was my grandmothers probably due to the size. Appears to be a 1946 Douglas with a Brunswick face. On the inside backcase corner are the numbers 091039 hand engraved and under the Bulova New York stamp there appears to be another hand engraving which I can't make out but appears to be the number 14 followed by a couple letters. Any additional info/help with ID is appreciated.

Hi bv, welcome to myBulova. I think these family treasures are priceless. I would be delighted to have a watch from any of my grandparents. I might go so far to suggest though that this was your grandfathers watch as it is a mans size for the period. It is possible though that grandma wore it or even owned it originally, either way you are most fortunate.
The case, I agree is Douglas and the movement is 21 jewel as a Douglas should be. As you know we do not have any ads showing this dial in a Douglas case. The clip below shows the Brunswick and the Douglas together. I'm stretching here but I see grandpa or grandma in a jewelry store with these two watches next to each other on the counter and someone saying, "I like this case and that dial...........", well it's possible I guess.
There is one other possibility, This is the 1946 Engineer. It's a bad clip at best.
It's also 21 jewel but in all the discussion we've had around this one the dial is said to have Roman numeral,
I'm up in the air on the ID, we have a tendency to label watches that don't match as Non-Conforming, it's possible that this beauty will end up there. At any rate, be proud of the fact that you have a wonderful heirloom.

With this particular case, dial and movement combination and the the overall condition and how it all seems to fit togteher nicely, I'm at Unknown. Possiblly a new model variation we haven't seen. They still pop up every now and then.

Thanks for the input. One of the interesting things on this face is the font. On most Bulova watches I've seen online and on this site, it's hard to come across this font. In particular, my eye always draws to the number "9'. Most 9's are open, whereas this one is closed. I've only seen this on the ad for the Brunswick on this site.

I agree, this is surely an unknown model or variant. We could either have as unknown, or Douglas.
Here is a little better cropping of the Engineer, still bad res but I can't do better with my poor iinstruments!
I should have added my ID vote, sorry. I would tag this as Unknown for now. The Engineer is tempting but I think it does have a Roman dial. I also notice the the seconds track is much different on the Engineer than the subject watch.
Tough one to call with low res ads. I'd have to say Unknown as well though I would lean towards the Engineer if we had a clear ad.
Could just be a Douglas with a dial from the store options sheet, but I'm going to say Unknown for now as I do believe we've seen it before. Nice watch!
