Watch Description

1943 Ladies Bulova watch.
My mother bought this watch from auction on October 2nd 2021 in Edmonton Alberta Ontario, the watch formerly belonged to Bette-Joan Rac. I'm unsure of the inscription on the back as Madam Rac was a collector of Antique Jewelry and owner of an Antique shop, why it was so important for Madam Rac to obtain this particular time piece is unknown to me however my mother said this piece had belonged to a famous writer and performer. That is all that I really know about the watch due to my mothers currently fast fading memory. I'm waiting on response from the auction company to hopefully gain more information on the history or this timepiece.

After viewing the final image blown up here I realize that is not a movement serial number od 551/v\5 but simply says SWISS upside down, I can't even blame  mistake like that on needing new glasses.....

Thank you for posting your watch.  I cannot make out what the engraving says so I cannot comment on that.  Based on our Vintage ad catalog your watch is a 1943 Bulova Jane Addams.  It is generally known as a Nurses watch due to the center second hand and the outer seconds track.   Used by nurses to time patients pulses.

Interesting history on the watch, thank you for sharing.  This age watch would not have a serial number on the movement and I can relate to trying to make out the tiny information on them.  As Jim said it is a nurse watch so no way of knowing why Bette-Joan Rac would have been interested in it.  Madam Bette Joan Rac 1944-2020 maybe a birth year watch and whoever sold it to her thought it was 1943, just a stab in the dark there.  Here is an interesing video on the sale of her house and things https://youtu.be/ETsPKqHW05Y?si=e9We90KKdrNqz7HC

My guess, and it's only a wild guess, is 'Susan' as the name on the back.

Model wise it is certainly a 1943 Bulova Jane Adams.
