Square case measures 22.2 from the lugs x 18.6 non-inclusive of the Crown using calipers. White dial shows raised gilt numerals and Bulova signature with an inboard seconds track printed in Black. Hour and Minute hands are Gilt Modern (GM) and the sweep center seconds hand is Black. Caseback is stamped Bulova Fifth Ave New York.
*although currently an unknown model I suggest an 'AMERICAN NURSE' variant, the vintage ad is dated 1940.
Very interesting and admittedly cool. It may indeed have started life as an American Nurse; however, in my opinion the modifications (apparent lug removal) and addition of assumed non-Bulova parts would make it a
1940 Non-Conforming,
Can you see evidence of lug removal under magnification? If so, my call is non-conf as known Nurse models have 4 lugs and are on a band. If not, we may be looking at a named brooch model, in which case, it's a
1940 Unknown.
An ad picturing this configuration as a Bulova variant would be the deciding factor.. Can you provide a close up photo of the end with no lugs?

It is a very cool nurse lapel pin! I suspect it is an American Nurse variant but I can not find any ads for one. The American Nurse was yellow and this is white, very interesting indeed.

Interesting for sure. Absolutely looks unmodified where the lugs would have been. Definitely an American Nurse but I have not seen any ads from that period showing pendant watches. I think this should be unknown.
