Watch Description

The back of this watch is pretty worn but here is what I'm able to see:  Bulova top of watch face   -  Swiss at bottom of watch face  -  finesse lgd 1988083 1 20 12k gf (band).  The back of the case seems to say gold plated on the upper back, but it's mostly worn off. At the bottom the case number is: 319678 (I'm pretty sure there's a number worn off).   I haven't taken the back off yet and it's pretty worn and I'm afraid I'll break it (any tips for removing it would be appreciated). With the information available and looking at information here and else where I think I've narrowed it down to a 1939 or 1940 Lady Bulova.

I've never tried to identify a vintage watch though and would appreciate a more experienced opinion.

I would be helpful if you were also able to open the case to see what date code the movement has.

I think you have a 1939 Bulova Eileen as seen by this example and advert.

I finally opened the case and it seems to be the symbol that is fir 1930 or 1940 (They look the same to me). So I'm thinking 1940? There is also a hard to read engraving in the inside of the case under New York. I think it is : 5546811

I have some pictures but am not sure how to add them at this point.

That does seem to be it! Thank you. I think I was overly focused on the band not being the same, but it did seem there were several band varieties available for the different cases. I have several modern watches, including Bulova, but this is my first time dealing with something vintage.

I am a little worried about removing the case as it is worn through in a couple places. But I may try to do it this weekend when I have more time.

Thanks again for the assistance.

Not to worry if you are not able to open the case. I think we have enough to correctly ID.

The advert and other example are also both dated 1939.

Good call Stephen. I agree, it's a

Bulova Eileen

Date to be determined by movement date code.
