This appears to be a Captain model. The case is 10KT yellow gold filled with matching case back. The movement is a 7AP 17J with a crescent moon date code for 1938. Since this model is documented as a 1939 model and no record of it in 1938 I suspect the movement might have been replaced or an early factory model with an older date movement installed. The dial is a traditional white dial with applied yellow gold hour markers which appears to match the following ads unlike the two tone dial watches in the database. Thoughts on 1938 or 1939 date?
Spot on ID and a good advert match.
A 1938 movement in a 1939 case is very normal.
1939 Bulova Captain it is for me as well. I don't think we have too many of these in the database, so thanks for adding.
1939 Bulova Captain
Another winner, congrats! I would be inclined to call this one a 1940, based on case s/n starting with a "0"
1940 Captain, noting movement is dated 1938
1939 Bulova Captain
I would go with 1940 as well for the case. I am not seeing this as 1939.
1940 Bulova Captain
After re-visiting this watch and others in the database, along with period ads; I'm changing my name vote based on case s/n.
It appears this watch was the Captain in 1939 and became the Admiral in 1940. Year of production is the determining factor. That being said
1940 Admiral
I agree - it's a model year thing. 1940 Bulova Admiral
