Bulova 1931 Conrad

Sharp watch, agree with Edwin

I think we should revisit this watch ID.   Please see this 1931 Gold Pitch Book Bulova ad we have in the Catalogs section.   It clearly indicates the unengraved plain case as a Conrad.   Yet we have this one ID'd as an Edwin.  It seems the Edwin name comes from one newspaper in Wilkes Barre PA. along with the reference ad in the Jason Weiller book.  As you can see from the second ad it clearly indicates a two tone watch.    I believe this Edwin with a plain white case is actually a Conrad and that the Edwin is actually the two tone unengraved version so the other two Edwins are correct.   The reference ad used to ID this watch could have been a typo and should have said White AND Yellow gold instead of OR.   It would seem to me we should use the Bulova issued Gold Book for naming of this watch and the second ad confirming the Edwin is two tone.

So once again we have a number of conflicting adverts.

We have 2 Edwin adverts matching both the Mortimer (2-tone) and Conrad (white or sungold).

Does this suggest that both Edwin adverts are wrong and that the official Bulova pitch book is correct?

With conflicting Edwin adverts does that means we default to the other best match which is actually an exact match to the subject watch?

Why is it never easy?

My vote based on the Bulova pitch book and re-evaluation of database is

1931 Conrad.

Mortimer has an engraved gold line down crystal sides and Edwin is a full two tone. That leaves Conrad as unengraved solid color white or yellow case.

Excellent. With the addition of the above full two-tone Edwin example, I do now think we can confirm the Conrad model ID.
