Welcome and thanks for sharing. This is a beauty in fine condition and one we seldom see, at this point it's an unknown. We have a couple others documented in the database as such. One is seen here, with a single ad referring to it as "A real man's watch" with no name.

Based on the s/n starting with a "9", we would identify it as a

1929 Unknown at this point in time.

Hopefully we will one day find an ad assigning him a name.

Thank you for the quick responses.  With the movement being dated 1931 but the case 1929 ... is that not the original movement?

I also came across another one recently that needed a crystal replacement.  Do you think a crystal for another Tonneau shaped watch from this era would be interchangeable  (is this a hard to find piece) ?  This watch has a 1929 10AL movement, which I would guess to be the original one.  It doesnt have the raised gold letters on the dial like the one I posted originally has either.  The inside of this one doesnt say 14k either, just "Bulova Quality".  Interesting.

Figured Id share it as well since this is a model that not much is known about up to this point.  I appreciate the help !  ---

Movement is likely original. 1929 and 1931 are technically only 366 days apart. We see 1-2 year date discrepancies quite often. The crystal will take some work and research. Measure the installed crystal with digital micrometers in order to compare to other models.

The dial variance is something we see as well. Many watches of this era came with either radium or raised numerals. We refer to the raised number as "dress dial" Most only appear in ads with radium, which was apparently more popular..
