art deco ,square dial 27mm case, green numerals, 10AN 15 jewel movement, sub seconds, white gold filled, flip back hinged case, case serial number 8086784. possibly a Brewster? Could anyone tell me what has been scratched out in case back and why? bought amongst joblot of spares and repairs at auction.
Dear Petethehat, your watch is an unknown. First time I see this model. The text inside that is scratched out is “14K” part of the material indication “14K gold filled”. I have seen identical scratch outs before so I suspect it was done by Bulova. The reason most likely is that both the terms 14K and gold filled needed to comply with regulations. Hence, I suspect that the gold used did not comply with 14K, hence it was scratched out.

I've read something similar to what Alex said about the 14K being removed.
I have nothing on this one. Never seen this case engraving before. Unknown for now. I will keep looking.
A first indeed. Crazy that after 20 years of doing this we are still finding new models from this era.
1928 Bulova Unknown.
saw this for sale, not sure how they referenced the name? 1)https://empress.cc/products/1928-bulova-brewster-swiss-gents-art-deco-w… 2)https://www.vintagewatchroom.com/product-page/bulova-brewster-gents-wat… very similar in looks but not quite?

Sellers not knowledgeable often search online and pick a watch name based on shape and declare the one for sale as such. I see misidentified Bulovas for sale on a pretty regular basis.
We identify watches based on advertisements of the period. As said, your watch we have never seen, nor have have we found any ad, hence we classify it as unknown. Two remarks to note: Bulova would typically give a new name for a model with a different engraving, such as your watch. And Bulova had far more products in their range than what they advertised.
A wonderful new Unknown
I am in agreement with the other panel members. Great watch and one I personally have never seen.
