I'm hoping I have a Lone Eagle. Looks to me like 2 date codes. A triangle ad a arrow.
Congratulations. You have a 1928 Lone Eagle! Note I changed the year and case serial number to the actual as seen in the picture. (To 1928 and 8338399)
Thank you so much. So happy I found one. Needs a bit of work I think but I'm happy to have it!
1928 Bulova Lone Eagle is a good match.
Well, yes it is a 1928 Bulova Lone Eagle as designated by the case serial number and dial (closed "9"). BUT the 10AN serial number 227826 is one from the initial run of 5000 Lone Eagle watches from 1927, WITH the requisite date code markings . Interesting in that we generally see watch cases with LATER movements, here we are presented with a case with an OLDER movement.
Curios about the movement date codes. Am I seeing 2?
Yes, under the word “SWISS” is a triangle and under the S of SEVENTEEN is an arrow. We don’t know exactly what it means but it is suspected that these are movements produced in 1926 but delivered in 1927. It happened in all movements. For the 10AN in the serial range of 210,00 until the end at 233,000. In any case, your movement is a replacement.
To admin: maybe we should add the triangle arrow as an option in the drop down of the movement date code?
I've only ever seen the triangle and arrow dual stamping on the 5000 LEs. There may be an outlier or two, but for the most part I've only ever come across them on 1926 stamped LEs. The interesting thing is the 1937 date code in an arrow. So Bulova may have started to use the arrow for 1927 but then changed to a square.
I agree that what is seems we have here is a 1928 Bulova Lone Eagle with what I consider an original 1926/27 5000 LE 10AN movement. Whilst a few years old now, the below numbers still generally hold true, and you can see that the serial number 227826 falls nicelly within the 5000 LE range.
ID wise, I nominate a 1928 Bulova Lone Eagle, noting the earlier movement which is certainly correct for this model.
So far in my database I have 69 triangle arrow date codes of which 16 Conqueror/Lone Eagles, 5 other man’s models among which a Templar (768) and President (831) in this database and 48 more spread over 14 ladies models using the following movements: 10 AN, 5AP, 6AF, 6AP, 6AT, 6P, 6W, and 7AT in a mix of 1926 and 1927 cases. In other words: it is all over the place. Hence I think the common denominator is a moment in time, and not a specific movement or model.
