Hi seoighe, nice watch! Given your serial number starting with 856, the watch is most likely signed with Bulova American Standard, a signature of 1927. The shape of your watch, which I call the cut corner tonneau shape, was introduced in 1923 as the 6722. In 1924, this shape got its first name: Mermaid. But then, the shape gets a new name every year: Ramona in 1926, Romola in 1928, Corinthia in 1929 and finally Lenore in 1930. In 1927, the year of your watch, this model was not advertised. So, Ramona or Romola? In a situation like this, I would keep the name of the previous year: Ramona. Then the dial. Both Ramona and Romola are advertised with a tonneau shaped minute marker on the dial while your dial has an oval minute marker like the ad of the 1930 Lenore. However, I have seen more of these 1927 Ramonas, that all had an oval minute marker, so that fits. By the way, in 1928, I saw both on the Romolas although only the tonneau minute marker was advertised. Your dial with the gold numbers on a white background is something I have never seen before. Very special. It would be great to see from what year your movement is, recognisable by the date code symbol that is stamped on it. In this site you will find the date codes in another section. All in all. Very nice watch with a beautiful dial: 1927 Ramona.

Thank you so much! I agree, it is unique, I havent been able to find one like it. The Corinthia is a close match, and in the accompanying ad , there are band options with the sapphires, as this piece has. I'll post more pics in a minute. Unfortunately, it seems the movement has been replaced, so there arent the usually markings I can find. Any thoughts on value?
