Watch Description

This is an odd one. It's not a Bulova case, Its actually marked Providence Watch Case Swiss, probably some kind of jeweler creation or a recase, but that's not my main point of concern. I'm more intrigued by the movement. Its dirty, i know, i was going to wait to post until i had it cleaned up and more clear photos, but I'm getting anxious to hear what everyone has to say. I listed as 1925, but i am not so sure. 1925 10A should be free of serial numbers and date coded with an 'O" but this movement has a serial number and i cannot find a date code. i can find something that looks like it might could be an 'O' but really could just as easily be a scratch or imperfection. Also, the general geometry, the bridges and such, do not match that of the other 10A movements we have in the DB. The engraving font and placement are all different as well. The caliber stamping of 10A is a little off, the A looks more like an upside-down V, it's just all very inconsistent and appears to be an older style of markings that the 10A's I usually see.  Take a look and tell me what you think

Even though it is not a Bulova case, i still love it. Large with a 21mm lug width. strange for that time period.

The movement and dial seem correct, but I think from either 23, 24 or maybe 25. The hands are not original and I would say Bulova never used this case with their branded BULOVA watches.

Providence Watch Case Company may have been a subsidiary of Bulova, but I do not think they were used by Bulova with their own branded watches. I think these were used for Westfield watches.

Wow, take a look at that rolling hallmark on the movement.

Not seeing a Square datecode,  the Shield maybe?

absent of a movement Datecode and having a Bulova Watch Co. hallmark would suggest late 1923.

The Case is certainly interesting.

Providence Watch Case Co. has been associated with what became Westfield Watch Co., a known subsiduary of Bulova.

Could Bulova have used Providence Watch Case Co. cases on its' early Gents wristwatches?

Imo I am leaning toward Yes.

Could this case serial number indicate 1922?

This i found online while researching Providence Watch Case Co...

"The name "Providence" was trademarked by the J. Bulova Co, Inc. (predecessor to the Bulova Watch Company, Inc.) in 1920.  That use of the name may or may not be related to the Providence Watch Case Co.  Interestingly, the Horological Trademark Index contains no separate listings for Providence Watch Case Co

Sorry for the multiple posts, I am unable to edit (and someone spiked the Coffee this morning)

From Bulova History We are told that Bulova introduced its' first line of Gents fully jeweled wristwatches (as elusive as they are) in 1919.

This Watch may be a piece of the puzzle We have been trying to assemble, pretty exciting.
