Watch Description

I am super happy to add this watch as the first 18K for my collection.  It is one I took a chance on, the photos were blurry and there wasn't a photo of the inside of the case or the movement.  So at best I was just hoping it was all Bulova.  Much to my pleasant surprise it seems to be an early Bulova design pre American Standard, I even got a cherry on top by having an ad for it already.  My ad is from 1924 and it has it as the 1579-S.  I am guessing at the date because I really can't find anything to indicate the date other than the ad.  Interesting on the movement it has 1579 and 5K.  I don't know if 1579 is the serial number or the model name and I don't know if 5K is the movement model or not.  I don't know much but that I love it!

17 jewel working movement, case only says 18 MPK and has lots of service marks.  I love the flowers on the dial.  The 18K solid white gold case has two triangular sapphires, one on each end.

I was trying to find some of the MP cases, I knew I remembered you mentioning them.  Glad it is a real Bulova purchased case.

Yeah I think I have 3 or 4 of these solid MP cases in the earliest ladies Bulova's, in both 14K and 18K

Lovely watch Kathy. Congrats! Indeed an early MP case again. They are easy to recognise since the engraving on the side typically is different from the engraving at top and bottom. American Standard initially did not master the technology to attach stones, but very quickly they could, meaning they also started producing this model. It got a name then in December 1924, called Duchess. The AS case can be recognised by the number of holes in the wings. Two in the case of MP and 4 in the case of AS. Also the engraving is now the regular Laurel leaf engraving all around the bezel. The 5 K was an eBauche from Glycine from who Bulova shortly bought from 1923 until early 1924. The 1579 is the serial number. Highest I have ever seen is around 3500, meaning they did not buy many from them. Their main movement was the 5P, supplied by Aurore based in Villeret. More details in my book!

Thank you Alex!  I looked forward to hearing what you would know about this one.  Great info as usual.  So by the MP case and the 5 K movement we can date this at 1923 with it being an early serial number?  Looking forward to your book!!
