So my 214 accutron which has not run or even seen the light of day (until a couple of months ago that is) since 1991, is running a little fast about 90 seconds per day. I mean I'm sure it's excited that it is operating again after all these years , however how can I get her to slow down just a little? Also I'm excited because I'm traveling and I asked the TSA about screening and the supervisor knew exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned Accutron so they are going to keep my watch away from the machines at the screening point. It's a fast paced world out there and my Accutron is keeping up, and then some :)
The newer silver oxide battery shouldn't cause it to run that fast. Usually the cause is improper adjustment of the index and/or pawl fingers. Yes, that should be left to an experienced tech. When these fingers are out of adjustment, the watch can run even hours fast/day. Fine tuning down to seconds/day is accomplished by changing position of the weights on the tuning fork. While Bulova did not recommend regular service for the Accutron movement, if it has never been serviced, I would get it serviced.
