Bulova Military Surplus / Military issue N.O.S, parts.

Submitted by FifthAvenueRes… on

whilst rummaging the old chest of drawers I came across a box I'd completely forgotton about.... what's in here?

... apparantly these work much better than mothballs.

N.O.S. Crystals for the WWII ORD DEPT wristwatch, sealed.

Some of these

showing the rear of an open box of Seconds hands and what's inside.

also a sealed pack or 2 of what's marked as Gasket, Crystal but upon inspection they're Black and seem more suited as caseback gaskets (?)

In looking at this old A-11 case note the Black residue on the Crystal shelf.  These are indeed Crystal gaskets for the WWII case. Perhaps for the Black dial variety only?....but Yay!

There's nothing like genuine NOS parts. How long did you say you've had the box on hands in you pants pocket? :-)

Just wondering. When did Bulova quit using the 10AK movement and when did the military quit using watches with this movement? Says these were packed in 1951 and 1953. Were they packed by Bulova for the military or packed by the military to dispose of?

Packed by Philadelphia Watch Supply Co for distribution to the Military for use.  I think there's a box here dated 1954, so the 10AK was in use at least until then.  It wouldn't be until later they were considered surplus.

Was the 15J 10AK and 16J 10AKCSH replaced by the 15J and 17J 10BNCH in '56?

more goodies

Large Military case crowns.  A-17A,  3818A

AK case Crowns.

Why did I only buy one of these??  A-11 Dial

Not Military surplus but old (er) Bulova parts:  A-11 Hour and Minute Hands N.O.S.

Harder to find than the Hour and Minute Hands:   N.O.S. A-11 sweep center seconds hands.

I have a bunch of these for the 10AK but these specify 'Hack'

Last but not least: Hens teeth!  If You've ever hunted 10BNCH parts You know what I mean.

..

Here's one.....a N.O.S Star Watch Case Co Military case.  (No, it's not mine. Yet)

Packed in 1960, the images show great details of the case.

Note the Crystal gasket, movement holder inside the case and the rubber O-ring for the (unmarked) caseback.

The 'replacement' case above looked familiar.

* noting the lack of the brushed finish detail seen on the A-17A nor the highly polished finish of the 3818A cases of era.

The 15J 10AK movement inside is dated 1944 and I have stressed for a long time over the watch possibly being one that someone had assembled from parts, a frankenbully.

I'm no longer concerned as I feel this is an ORD DEPT watch that outwore its' welcome in its' original case which was replaced and put back into service.

From Bulova Crown cabinet #6

* Crown #310 should fit the WWII era A-11 Watch Navigation Hack.  ( #310B fits the A-17A and 3818A style cases)

I got lucky and found this one.

This should answer the age old question of if the Bulova 10BM movement was used by the Military, at least for Me.

The jewel count remains unknown.
