Bulova 1955 10k Rolled Gold 17 Jewels

I just about forgot about this Bulova watch, which I picked up in an estate sale about a year ago.  After winding it up, it stops after awhile which makes me sad.  Perhaps there is someone here that could recommend having it looked at. After popping off the cover it is rather dirty inside and I expect the previous owner wore it a long time.  Likely a low end watch but I like its simplicity and classic looks.

If you push out to 1957 Linebook there is a good match to a 1957 President "A"

Good news is you were on the money with a Bulova President model ID. Even better news is the crown is correct and original.

The hand scratched markings on the inner case base are jewelers marks from previous servicings.

Thank you for solving that mystery for me.  I was thinking to myself perhaps that is what it meant.  Called Witness marks?

I guess I have posted the 1st 1955 President!  I expected the watch to be cheaper with the 10K Rolled gold.

I guess my band isn't original but it looks really nice with the watch.  Thanks guys!

I also have a 1955 President (a black dial "B"). The crown is quite tired though and would like to replace it. Would someone have the reference number for this crown?

I can't help where to sorce a replacement but mine needed to be replaced with the dust shield when I had it serviced by Jim Dozier in Pleasant View, TN.

 

@FifthAvenueRestorations thank you for that ad and it is interesting I could have a early / pre-release model.  I wear mine often and love it.  Its been running like a champ since I had it serviced :-)

an interesting Watch as this 'PRESIDENT' design was proclaimed as 'new' in 1956. 

 

L5 on the movement and case (1955) suggests early production.
