My second American Girl, decided I would like to get a couple models in this line. I thought this one was the "Z" in white gold filled but when it arrived it is actually yellow gold filled. I think it is the "Y" but the dial is different than the ad so I am not 100% sure.
The case is 10k gold filled and is dated stamped L8. The movement is a 6BD 17 jewel working movement dated stamped L8. The dial is white with gold numbers and dashes and is in nice condition (replacement?). Look forward to your thoughts.
Edit: The box was a pick up on it's own that I got for the first AG I bought. I thought it was a good match for this watch as well but now know the price point is wrong so I will change that photo. I am changing the ad to what appears to be the correct variant "K".
Another thing that we should take into consideration, a customer buys a watch, the sales clerk then quickly assembles the purchase at the counter, having dug around and found the box.
I've worked in retail for many years, and I can tell you, the right box for whatever product we're talking about often does not get sold with the product. They get a lot more fussy about it with high end watches like Rolex and the like, where resale value is considerably higher with the original packaging. I remember doing inventory at the end of the year and we'd find all kinds of orphan boxes and cases with no product for them, so it does happen quite a bit.
It's quite possible the clerk just grabbed the box that said 'American girl' without checking which variant it was that was being purchased.
$59.50 in 1958 is $522 in today's money. Not expensive, but certainly not cheap.

I totally agree! However, I should have mentioned that the box is a pick up on it's own. I got it for the first AG I bought. The white box has a sticker which is nice saying AG "G". I kind of rushed putting this one up in-between chores yesterday and missed a couple of details.

Thank you Geoff, they are very pretty little watches. They were probably made for teens and young adults. They fit my small wrists pretty perfectly.
I don't know where Shawn finds them but I think his collection will hold the record : ) he has some beauties and from what I read he didn't even post all of them.
