Bulova Ladies 19K Gold Filled Watch.

Inside case stamped with: American Standard, with Shield, 25 YEARS, 19K Gold Filled,

I believe this is the #6720 by the dial/numbers. I love the blow out numbers on the dial.

Dear TexasLady, your watch is the 6720. This shape was called “Tulip” at that time.

it would be interesting to see what clasp your watch has. Maybe it is the same as advertised?

Hi Alex,

The "clasp"? my watch has a fabric band with clasps.

I dated the watch wrong: it should be 1923

With your watch being gold filled and having a 15 jewelled movement I'd be inclined to say it's a 6519.

We can see that Bulova used a different number between the solid and filled cases.

Here is a good 1923 example: (top two ladies watches and the men's watch at the bottom)

1923 Bulova watch advert.

You can see here that the gold filled versions (odd number) are one number before the solid gold version (even number).

We have also established with a good many examples that the second number when either a 5 or 7 corresponds to either 15 or 17 jewels accordingly, with the first (in this case a 6) being the movement ligne size 6PP.

I'd be at IDing your watch as a 1923 Bulova 6519

Oh and I'm also a big fan of the exploding dials. Very true to the period of the early 1920s.

Stephen,

The examples of the Ladies watches in the ad you posted is 18K vs 14K  And the

Men's watches clearly state in the ad with positive ID 18K vs14K vs. SS.

IMHO, since we have an ad  # 6720 with the 17J and 15J listed with one ID number, it should remain,  until such time we find info/ad to the change in IDing number.

As for me, I'll put this in my records as 1923 #6720 noting the WGF 15J, until new info/ad states otherwise.

Watches came in different case standards at different price points, typically for ladies 18K solid, 14K solid and either 20 years or 25 years gold filled, platinum and the SS for mens watches.

We have a number of adverts showing how the model number varied due to a number of factors; movement ligne, case material, movement jewel count and watch type (wrist vs pocket).

The 6720 is listed as the 18K sold gold version with a 17 jewel movement, but to differeniate the variations for each model a unique number would have been used to track orders and sales.

Whist we have no direct advert showing a 6519, we have enough evidence and discussions over the last 10 years to determine a general consensus.

Here is part over the overall model taxonomy list we have built up over the last 10 years which shows the various model numbers we have determined to exist through one mean or another. I've just added the 6519 to the list and you can see that it is not out of place in the list.

Another nice close up of your watch.

They also sold a 14Kt solid gold version with 15 jewels for $40.

Based on solid vs plated - I have to agree with Stephen on this one. Good catch.
