Additional Information:

Inside the case back there are small numbers scribed "+10-71" which is circled and a few other numbers that are too small to read. I assume that these are adjustments?

Four small diamonds are set into the watch

I have painstakingly scoured all of the ads from 1959-1970 and have not returned a similar watch. Can anybody help me please?

2nd from the left is what it should look like.  I still say Americn Girl but Non Conforming as it's been altered.

I'm not sure about an alteration to the lugs...The subject case back and front photo (left and 2nd from left below) shows the "length" of the lugs/embelishments, and it looks different than the lugs on Bourg01's example.  The subject lugs, either with or without embelishments, appear to be longer than (far right).  The lugs also angle off slightly different?

Nope, Sorry Will but nthere's 2 steps to each lug. The subject watch has the ebellishment on the 1st step. If you look closely you can see the springbar in the second step of the lug on both watches. JM2CW

aha...yes  I see the springbar now.. Couldn't tell where the lugs quit and the band started....but now I do.  Thought yours was only "one step".  Short of embelishments, they do look the same. 

So did someone "add" the embelishments, or is it just an American Girl variant which we have not seen.  Either way, the American Girls of this era all have the bangle bracelet, so it may be without the bracelet, it's non-conforming in this instance regardless of embelishments....

I think the bangle bracelet is required for the model ID for these American Girls....

The embellisments could have been added by a jeweller but I think this was manufactured that way by Bulova. I've had several other American Girl variants with the white gold and diamond embellishments as can be seen on 3rd from left in my pic. In fact, here's a couple more that reside in Lorraine's growing collection. I'll agree with nc since it's been altered.

Too bad the bezel is yellow cause I could have hooked him up with white bracelet arms. Now I'll  have to restore it and send it up on Ebay.

Regardless what it's ID'ed as today, or what model it was before bangle loss or other possible alterations...it's a cool little watch. I do agree w/ Bourg01 the embelishments probably are origninal to the case...

Aside from the watches I've shown you, here's an add snippet that shows the embellishment on the one watch. With so many variants in this very popular line I have no doubt that Bulova may have embellished every "base model" and stretched thier offering to so many variants for the public to choose from.
