Is tha a N1 on the top of the case back? Can you take the case back off and post a picture?

You could try looking here to.

It sure looks like N1 on the caseback, making this a 1971 model.

Peter,

Any authorized Accutron dealer in your area should be able to replace your battery, or you could do it yourself if you have the tools to open up the case. The battery will need to be the correct size and voltage, or it could damage the coils.

If it has not been run for along time, I would recomend you have it cleaned and lubed by someone that has been trained on these, as there are parts in the movement that require it.

There are a few members here that work on these, Mike (timemachines) and I believe Jeff (timerestoration) also Reverend Rob may be able to help you on this.

You can send them a personal e-mail and ask.

Peter, that's a fabulous family heirloom you have, and I'm sorry you acquired it in the manner you did.  Your father had good taste in watches.

I was lucky to pick up a similar watch, mine is marked N0 (1970), and had a different band attached when I purchased it.  The Kreisler braclelet on yours is very nice.

If you haven't found someone to service the watch yet, there are quite a few Accutron tuning fork specialists, most have websites online.  You can also peruse some watch forums to get feedback on who's been used, and such.  Try watchtalkforums.com Bulova/Accutron subforum.

Here's a pic of mine, humming along nicely with a modern replacement 344 battery.

I restore any 214 and 218 Accutron to factory specs including use of 1.35 volt Accucell Silver Oxcide modified 395 batteries. "Time & Again" John V. in Central Florida 407-310-2774 e-mail centralhsd@earthlink.net

See examples per MyBulova Page JEV1A

I have a flat rate including shipping for most Accutrons.

FYI: The Bulova - Accutron - Kreisler Mesh Bracelets alone can sell for hundreds and becoming very rare finds. Your N-1 1971 is complete and correct as shown. If movement is dead, I can replace coils. If you are using a typical #344 Battery it is the wrong voltage (1.55) and tuning fork may stutter creating a faster phase and run-time. The original Mercury Bulova Accutron Batteries were banned by the EPA. Although wrong voltage, most are using the 344 or Renata 394 batteries which can create problems over time. A company today, Accucell has modified a 395 silver oxcide battery to a reduction of 1.35 volts which is the correct factory specs for 214 and 218 movements. I only utilize these special order Batteries for any 214 or 218 Accutron repair and or restoration.

Beautiful watch!

I have aquired a rather nice Bulova Accutron watch. It is listed as being an N2, upon the back is enscribed the words " Heavy Gold Plated Bezel" and also "10K Rolled Gold Plated Back"

The Markers appear to be diamonds with the 'Day/ Date' at 3.00 position and the letters 'ACCUTRON' in gold at 9.00

It appears to need a new battery so can anyone here advice me as to the number of this battery, and /or some idea of the market value of this for my Home Insurance purposes.

Very many thanks for your help or comments

Hello Dr Barrie, we are unable to provide appraisals for watches, there are just too many variables. The correct battery for most Accutron, as stated above, is the Accucell 395.
