I bought my Accutron Astronaut new at the PX in Vietnam in 1971. It's been sitting in my desk drawer without a battery for the last 35 years maybe.
Very neat. Welcome to mybulova and thank you for posting the watch. Before you put a new battery in it, I would recommend that you have it serviced so it will continue to give you many years of service. There a several members that have the ability to do the cleaning of this great watch for a very reasonable cost.

Hello lielaisozols, welcome to myBulova. No question it's an Astronaut. Not a very common variant, with the enameled black bezel. The stainless bezel is the more common. There is also a black and white version out there.
Congrats on hanging on to it all these years. Quite a keepsake of the time you spent in Viet Nam. It seems like everyone I ever met that was 'over there' brought back an expensive watch. I like yours a lot. We have a couple members that do restoration on these old gems. Let us know if your interested and I'll send you some names.
you have a type 4 variant

I agree
I really like the work that went into that classification scheme. It does a good job of describing and ID'ing various Astronaut variants, however it uses its own unique IDing system. They don't pigeonhole into the advertised Bulova model names for many of their variants within each type, but thats only because vintage ads for various variants were not available at the time.
