Watch Description

Accutron 214.  Movement marked M7, caseback marked M8.  Given as a gift by father-in-law after he found it while going through his late father's estate.  Non-original Twist-o-Flex band. Unknown service history, but was found working with new(er) Energizer 394 and spacer (I think) installed.

This one looked as though it could be a match to the $150 '209' based on this 1965 ad:

but the lugs look to be different than those on your watch - your lugs appear to be more angled and separated from the bezel; plus your watch is luminous and this one does not appear to be so.

The pricelist from 1964 has two '209' models, one for $150 and one for $175 (we just id'd one of these)

May just be a basic Accutron without a known variant; will see what the others think or find...

Hello matlobi, welcome to myBulova. I have a soft spot for heirloom watches and this is a fine example. Looks as if this one was a Christmas gift back in 1969. We always recommend servicing these old beauties if you plan to wear and use them.

I also recommend taking the self adjusting band off the watch and replacing it with a properly fitted band, bracelet or strap. These bands are made to fit several lug spacing and apply constant pressure to the lugs. The metal to metal pressure will eventually wear the lugs down.

In terms of ID I rather think it is the 209 variant. The lugs appear angled when viewed from the rear but appear straight. like the advert when viewed front on.

Accutron 209 is my vote.

It was a gift, but my father-in-law (FIL) has no idea who the initials would belong to.

I've never liked how universal expansion bands tend to trash the lugs. I managed to win an Accutron signed leather band on Ebay for right around $5. Just waiting delivery, then will be installing it.

As for service, my FIL discovered a jewelry receipt in the box the watch was in that noted a cleaning, adjusting and battery replacement dated earlier this year. This would explain why it was running when he geve it to me.

Accutron model "209" looks to be correct for me. This watch was gifted exactly one year after I was born....nice.

Case looks to be date stamped M8 making it 1968.

Yes, as the case also determines the model. The movement may have been used in other models in 1967 and/or 68.
