1957 Bulova Surfmaster “A”
Shadow Dial

I ended up with this watch by accident. I saw the movement on eBay with an opening bid of $5 and $5 shipping. I bid so I wouldn’t forget about it. I expected to have to raise my bid to get it. I looked at it a couple hours before it ended. I was going to raise my bid in the last few seconds but I forgot. I ended up winning. The next day I wanted to find out what model the dial went on so I searched eBay for 10BUC and found an NOS case that I had already been watching for weeks and the description said the 10BUC fit the case. Since the case had an L7 date code I searched the database for any square cased watch with the 10BUC around 1957. That’s when I found the Surfmaster. I immediately bought the case. So I now have a watch with a case that basically never existed as a complete watch until now.
I also have a Surfmaster “B” and I must say the design of using the screws to secure the case is one of the worst ideas Bulova has ever had. The Albatross case is pretty bad as well.
