I believe it is a 1950 Standish, due to the elongated lugs and lack of engraving at the top and bottom of the bezel, however, I cannot locate a Standish with a black dial. The lines around the sub-seconds dial appear different as well, so it could be a re-dial. Any help identifying this one would be greatly appreciated! I'd like to order a replacement crystal for it and want to be sure to order the right one.
We have previously ID'd this watch case with white face as Standish, based solely on crystal specs. We have no ads for that model. Here is an example, with a replacement specs crystal discussion.
In 1955, we find this model listed as discontinued, and ID'ed as Stanton (again with white face), as seen here. Here is another, unengraved with similar crystal discussion.
I find no ads noting black face, so it is possibly a redial or unknown variant. Dial looks original to me, but that is a gut feeling thing. It's a toss up for me at this point. Standish may have been renamed Stanton at some point between 1950 and 1955, so if I was to go on instinct, I'd be more inclined to call it a Standish tentative, as it appears that name appeared first, and the earliest example of the watch we have seen is 1950..
There is no reference to Stanton in the Line Books with a black dial variant. Isn't this easy? (smiles, sighs and rolls eyes)
At this point in the research, I'm at
1950 Standish - tentative noting dial color discrepancy.
. In any event, I think we have at least identified the crystal.
