Resembles 1936 Craftsman, and is date stamped with square. Has the fancy lugs found both in Tuxedo and Excellency of the same eras. Extremely clean 21j cal. 7AK.
OK so this 1946 advert shows a Craftsman as having a solid 14Kt gold case. Owner has advised that the case is gold filled. Thus negative on the Craftsman ID.
I'm not finding a gold filled version of this case design in the adverts.
Still looking.
Here is dial as seen on subject watch in a 1946 s/n different case (dated as 1947) , and here is a slightly later 1948 HE "GG " case that looks to be a match.
I would be inclined after looking at all the His Excellency models; to either call this one
His Excellency, no variant or
His Excellency "GG" noting dial replacement.

My concern about an 'His Excellency' ID is that they didn't come into play until 1947 and prior to that they typically had an individual\ model name.
I've just found that we have a 1944 advert showing the Her and His Excellency line which I believe we have mis-identified the year.
I take your point that the dial matches that of a Craftsman, but has the case of an 'His Excellency', even though in 1946 the case was probably known under another name.
The mystery continues.
Ok so maybe this advert can shed some light on the subject.
There is a note that says "These models are available in the distinction and color or natural, pink and white gold."
Based on that note is it possible that we have a yellow gold version of the Ambassador, which at $62.50 would be gold filled.
