I think this is an American Nurse from 1943. It has a 10K rolled gold plate bezel, sterling base, stainless back. It is the same case as the Military Miss and Rocket.
Updated: Added a new ad showing this dial with the American Nurse name.
Hmm, this one is one of those that keeps us guessing.
Advert indicates gold filled case, and whilst the bezel is on your watch, the rest isn't. Normally the advert will say if the back is stainless steel.
I think so far we've seen similar adverts for 'Canadian Nurse', 'Sport' as well as the 'American Nurse'.
In a earlier fourm post the 'Lido' was also mentioned due to a similar crystal size.
I'd be tentative on an Bulova American Nurse, but would easily be happy to confirm if we could get another advert.
I'm torn on this one; as the dial font of subject watch doesn't match any of the 3 suggestions of "America Nurse", Canadian Nurse" or "Sport" via available ads.
Hands also differ, with the only color ad appearing to show gold hands for the Canadian.
Assuming the subject is an unmolested example, the "Sport" has the closest hand match to subject watch.
Food for thought. Currently an unknown for me pending more research.

Hi Kathy - I'm also unsure of this one. I agree that the dial is most likely original. I think the hands are replacement based on the distance the minute hand is past the track. It seems like it should be inside to be correct.
If I had to pick one, I'd be inclined to Sport (but that hand doesn't look right either). I'm tentative on either.

Hi Geoff, I think the hands are original. There are two 1948 under American Nurse on this site that have the same hands and also a couple on ebay at the moment. I agree it seems odd but seems to be consistent for this model. Also agree with admin that it seems to have a military nurse feel to it.
I know you guys have thought all this through probably being in the Bulova world for some time. I was thinking this dial is so similar to the Surgeon and the Surgeon had a couple of different dials too. Leads me to think American Nurse even more so. Here is a Surgeon with the same type of numbers and hands. http://www.mybulova.com/watches/1945-surgeon-1448
