Here is one I picked up recently. Based on the newpaper ads on this site in the 1930 to 1939 thread - this model that was previously the President Madison became the Tyler and was upgraded with to a 21j movement. So: Tyler My movement is marked 21j - 6 adjustments. It does not have a serial number, date stamp or country of origin. Dial numbers are black enamel. The work is very good - but I am assuming that this was done over a Radium dial and the hands were swapped at the same time. However, the finish is good enough that it could be factory and the hand look appropriate to the time. The case is 14kt GF...Marked with the 1927 patent date. BTW: the case is hinged but missing the hinge pin.
Tyler. Needs Cathederal hands and the dial redone with lume on numbers to be an exact match. Very nice watch. I don't know if I would bother with the hands and redial if it were mine. I think it looks great like it is.
John
I just LOVE the dial!
Looks kind of "retro", going back to the earlier style dials, would look better with spade hands, very, very slightly non-conforming but still a Tyler and still a very cool watch.
Tyler. Is it possible to get a photo added of the dial out from behind the crystal?
Agreed. The President Madson was advertised with a 17 jeweled movement. This watch sports a 21J thus would be a match for the Tyler.
Hi everyone, Thanks for the nice comments. I couldn't believe that I didn't have more competition from you guys bidding on this one...This looks to be the first Tyler confirming the movement upgrade indicated in the ad. I have updated the file with a close-up of the dial... BTW: I have no plans of touching the dial or the hands. I like it fine just the way it is.
Agreed, Tyler.
yep Tyler. Cool watch.
Those cap jewels are pressed in and would need to be pressed out to properly service this movement.
I'm wondering about the name of this one. Possibly a Masonic reference?
