Inside of case says:
BULOVA QUALITY
FILLED
Was passed down from my great grandmother, it never had a watch strap/bracelet attached to it. Just sat in what looks like the original watch case that says Bulova on it for as long as my mother can remember. Watch still runs when wound. I would like to know more info on it, like what metal it is, if it's worth doing anything with, like having it cleaned, a new crystal put in (the current one pops out and is yellowish), looking into a strap/bracelet for it, etc. I don't know much about watches so any information is very helpful. Thanks
1924 Bulova model 6514 looks to be a match.
Hi bkrupp, welcome to myBulova. What a wonderful family keepsake you have. To think that this beauty has been with your family for 90 years is remarkable. Gold filled means it's a layer of gold heat compressed to another type of metal, like brass. You should have it serviced if you intend to wind and use it. Cost can vary but is most likely less than $100 USD, including the crystal replaced or glued back in place. Four options for a bracelet. Originally it probably had a silk strap, you could find a nice old filigree type to have fitted or you could go with a link type. Lastly you could have a cord type put on. Click the "20" link at the top of the page, under 'Search Bulova Models' and you'll go to the 1920's watches where you'll see your options.
I agree with the ID of model 6514.
I'm looking for a 6513 ad, showing fill vs the 6514 in solid gold....
June 6th, 1925 ad snippet for 6514 on left. Two "blurry" Pater ads in 1925, and a clearer 1926 ad (below right) click on graphic for full ad.
I don't remember, are we saying based on the ads, there's a time when the 6514 became the Patter?
Also thinking we will find the fill verison of 6514 will be 6513.
