Watch Description

Thought I would show you one of my Wife's Watches, I thought it might be a model 156 but I can't match the engraving in any of the Advert's.  The case measures 24.70mmx24.70mm not counting the lugs or crown, measures 28.40 lug to lug.

On the dial if you look sideways in a bright light with a loupe you can see a verry faint impresion of the word Bulova. We have had it for years, runs great. I would like to find a period band for it if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks, Dennis

14k solid. I would agree with 156.

Hi Stephen, I'm just guessing as to the year, going by the movement data base 10AI-1922/23

Period band would be the silk type with a catch you see in the ads, very rare to find an original catch, but a silk or satin band would be easy to make using brassiere-type catch to fasten it with.

Filigree gold filled band is also period although not seen that often in the adverts.

Not a 156 I'm afraid, Doesn't match the 156 we have in the db, doesn't match the 1923 ad either. I didn't see any quite like it, Unknown for now. ( I'd vote for the filigree version ).

Geoff, all the engravings seem to be slightly different from the advert which is making life difficult for us. At the moment I'm seeing a number of standard shapes that these ladies are all fitting into and they seem to come in either 14K GF, 14K solid, 18K solid or 18/19 GF.

I agree that we are far from knowing how to correctly ID these beauties, but I am hoping that the observation I made here rings true....and uses the KISS principle.

Although with Bulova I seriously doubt they knew the meaning :-)

Good observation Stephen, using a basic case shape for each model number regardless of engraving.
Remember these early watches were hand engraved, so some differences to design would occur, and could possibly even have been encouraged.
Silk band would look original and true to all the ads, and add that touch of class.
