The black dial of this watch suggests British Military use perhaps but ultimately could have been worn by an Army officer of either side. 

*The U.S. didn't officially enter WWI until April 6, 1917.

The only difference I can see is the 7 jewel vs the 15 jewel in the ad.  So this could be 1 of 200.

I'm not sure Jim, the ad states 'the same type as been used at the front since the start of the war' and is entered for an example of the case design.   *The war started in 1914 so the subject watch could be as early as 1914.

I do not have the movement out of the case at this time but approx 28.1mm +/-
