Pleeeease tell me someone here just got the Buckingham case that just closed on the BAY..
I can tell you that i didn't get it I was so mad !!!!! I would have been a great project to do over summer.

The Case was from a Watchmakers Estate and looked Minty. Sorry, I couldn't resist...
Minty is an understatement!!!
plus it has the crystal as well.
From the photos is appears to be missing the enameling on the ends as seen in the ad.
My 1929 version runs on an 8AN. That may be the only movement that will fit the case appropriately.

Do we know for sure this model had enameling?
I'd say no it didn't and that the photo merely emphasizes the pattern. The ad mentions nothing of enameling.

Yip, Enameling has a bad habit of washing / wearing off after 80+ Years, if the Glass is good that's an added bonus - the adhesive looks dated so it's been in there a while.

Again, I would disagree that the enameling has washed or worn off. We have seen enough 80+ year old Lone Eagles with plenty of enameling still attached. It would take a fair bit of wear to remove it. Again I believe that this model did not have enamel inlayed into the pattern.

I have a Buckingham that does appear to have some enameling on the ends. I suppose it could be just miscellaneous grime, but the rest of the case was pristine.

Am I allowed to ask what a "Buckingham" in nice condition is worth? I see Bryan Girouard had one on his website a while ago, but he does not leave his prices showing on his archived watches. I might have a lead on one, and I want to offer the guy a fair price. Thanks. Bruce

It depends on the condition Bruce,
They are sort of rare, and that helps boost up the price, if I remember right, there was one on the Bay last year that was in rebuildable condition that still brought close to $200.00

The one I bought on eBay a couple of weeks ago appears to be all original and in pretty good condition, though the crystal was badly cracked. It sold at auction for a little under $300.00.
Worth Price quotes etc. are not given here. I would say offer what you are willing to pay. Like most they are worth what a buyer is willing to pay to get it.
OK, thanks. I did ask Bryan Girouard what he sold his for (very nice condition) and he emailed back and wrote "somewhere between $500-$800, I can't remember exactly." I like Bryan; he's a great guy, but one of the things I find ironic about him is that he takes beautiful photos and goes to great lengths to describe his watches. But apparently he does not record what he sells his watches for! (Bryan if you're reading this, I'm not being critical. I just find it "quirky" in that charming sort of way!). Anyway, thanks for the comments, and sorry if I breached protocol by bringing up prices.

Although not quite ready for prime time, there is some very stubborn crystal adhesive in the shelf recess, the 'BUCKINGHAM' Case arrived.
The Case is a 2 piece snap fit, slightly curved with hidden lugs and is a 'set back' design. (The Movement sits in the Caseback.)
The Case measures approx 39mm lug to lug x 24mm using Calipers and the bezel opening is 22.9(7) x 17.7(6) MX
The serial number dates the Case to 1928.

Someone cleaned the bezel, removing the enamel, then used a platting pen or electro of some type to redo the bezel front. I don't know replating techniques or terminology. But the cobbled/recessed area just look too smooth/clean. Compare to wear on inside front and back of bezel. Inside wear inconsistent w/ bezel front. ...unless it really took a beating from the inside out.

One would think the Bezel has possibly been replated, but that would require plating under 80+ Years of ick around the crystal?
The inside of the Case certainly hasn't received the same attention to detail as the exterior.
OldTicker was telling me about a platting pen which can be very specific to areas while avoiding others. I wondered about ick and non-replated areas too. Someone who knows platting will chime in soon.
