For the above what I actually read is: "have tested, does not work at all, probably has a broken staff and twisted hairspring and guts ripped out, but if we put it may work and we haven't tested some fool may just bid high"

Everyone likes to use the patent date as the date of the watch. I've quit trying to set them straight

And then there are all those "drivers" models. Like right now there's a nice American Eagle "C" advertised as a driver's watch. What???

I had to laugh at that one: "Steampunk". When all else fails, it has steampunk possibilities.....
Geoff: I have heard eBay wants to crack down on the heavy shipping sellers, but that is still a good deal you got! I think I'll do a search on Unusual Art Deco Curvex Rare Collectible investment watches....Bulovas, of course.

since we are all in the know..i ignore all this crap that people say...when i sell something i am honest as possible...one only because i don't want to deal with returns..and two so no one can i say i missed something....

ULTRA-RARE MINTY ORIGINAL ART DECO CURVEX MILITARY GOLD!!!
Last week, I saw a very ordinary Elgin, with a very ordinary and not shockproof movement, listed as a 'very rare 673 17 jewel movement', and the listing said "The Elgin resources have this listed as a very rare Signiture Shock Movement."
'Signiture Shock'? What the heck does that even mean? Especially for a non-shockproof movement.
But I did see something funny yesterday. Apparently, somebody couldn't read the writing on the dial of an Elgin Shockmaster. They called it a 'Thockmaster', presumably because it can survive the 'THOCK!' sound you hear when your watch falls on a desktop...

agreed...even if these discriptions are correct. It's a tradeoff between the truth and ePay policies, which favor the buyers :(
Oh, how did we forget "Asymmetric", which, as I recall, means that the shape cannot be folded over in any way evenly. I don't recall ever even SEEING an asymmetric Bulova case, Hamilton's yes, but not a Bulova.....
AND I just saw an Accurron Astronaut listed as Art Deco, Mod AND Retro. YIKES - fashion collision imminent!! Watch out for flying pieces.
thanks geoff for clearing that up for people.,,,anyway these are all tag lines...so when somewhen runs a search for an art deco watch they get a 1960s Accutron...i mean it takes some moxie to say that is an art deco watch though...but for something to be art deco it really doesn't have to come from the real art deco period...art deco just means art decoration that has no purpose other to look nice pretty and attention grabbing..now i know art deco it more of a style than just something made to look pretty..but it doesn't mean it has to be from a certain period....like the 50's AAs i would say they have and art deoc look to them... but like it has been said here, the thing that bothers me the most is EVERYTHING IS A CURVEX no its not a curvex back isn't even curved at all...
It is really hit & miss on buying some watches. Here is a nice one. Its always good to buy a watch that someone adjusted the calendar with a pair of pliers. They made sure to face the crown up to were the top teeth looked good & the bottom chewed off. They did this so much that the case back worn thin and cracked, screw back ring couldn't even be tightened then did a pretty solider job on the inside. Just what I wanted. This other one has this real nice lug to look at but the photo taken could not see it in a forward shot. Sure these watches are vintage & would have some wear but some are over the top.
How about Wow, Rare, Curvex and Tanq all in the same listing title.
Of course, if it were a Bulova Curvex Tanq it certainly would be rare and I would most likely yell WOW!

Ha Ha DarHi, I'm new to collecting Bulova watches so I have to be careful on what I buy and when I see RARE it don't hold water with me unless I do some research. Thanks for the input on the green Bulova, I am going to looking up DIOR before I go to bed.
Back to the beginning....my favorite seen so far was, "Manual wind....doesn't run....might need a new battery."

I finally called one seller on the phone after he said he didn't know if it ran or not. First I emailed him asking him to "check" if it runs please. He wrote back and said he didn't know how to make these older watches run. He said he was only 25 years old and had only owned battery watches for his personal use.....yet he was a seller w/ many vintage watch auctions recently closed. So I called him on the phone and told him to try winding the little knob on the side, A day later he email me back. He had wound it. It didn't tick. ...and he thanked me for teaching him how to wind an old watch.
Like I'm gonna ad him to my favorite sellers list just for laughs!
