Hi everyone
Just wondering if anyone out there had seen a watch like this before. I was glancing through ads but had not found it but think it is called bulova concentric. Dated L6 (1956) 10k gold filled automatic 6 adjustments. I had not seen one by bulova before just Benrus (Benrus pointer)

This model cleans up very nicely.
These two watches are not the watch pictured in the ad. Ad does not show the alternating coin edge around the bezel. The dials are the same but the cases are different. I have also seen this model as automatic. I'd be interested to know what the inside back cover states on these beauties. I think this is one of the coolest watches Bulova made....about that Benrus reference, did Bulova copy the competion on this guy?

This one matches the ad had a buy-it-now of $700. I have one I picked up that may be worth fixing, the crown pulls out, but it runs.
I think there was a lot of "copying" going on Geoff, by all the watch makers. I've been buying quite a few old ads lately from Gruen, Waltham, Elgin etc. and I'm amazed at how many models look alike. Can you say "Bezel Envy".....
I look forward to seeing this added to the myBulova watch database. Please add as much detail about the watch as you can including information about the movement.

The Bulova '23' is shown in this Case, ad in the database. Jerin had one at one time, I believe (?)
....ack, but now I see the Dial discrepency.
This Watch would NOT be the Bulova 23 - 'HIS EXCELLENCY' were the manual winding 23 Jewel sub Dialed models but I'm not positive about this Watch with the added Calendar complication showing.

Watch has a sub Dial admin.
Center located 3rd Hand. - 'WRIST ALARM'?
No wrist alarm, I too seen the slight differences noted. The only other reference is to a "Bulova Concentric" Oh yes this is an automatic winder and has a B cut out . I will add more pics today

Sub Dialed automatic ??
Looking closely at the vintage ad above the Watch shown also has a sub Dial and the Center 3rd Hand matching the unknown. I'm back to My original opinion.
Bulova '23' Calendar.
So here are a few pics of the watch. And here is a link to the exact watch on another site. The movement is a 10BPAD and looking at the rotor you can see the way the cutout forms a "B" and the adjustment markings are on the outter edge of the movement plate

I do agree to an extent that it is the Bulova 23 calendar but the case grooves do not match and I think the lines give it a more standout look. All opinions appreciated
My guess, Calendar model diff year than the add with a new style bezel that we dont yet have an add for. Too much going on with this dial to really believe it to be anything else.

This bezel is shown in an another Bulova '23' ad, somewhere.
Ok shown in my watch book with grooves and says circa 1951, so probably 1951-whenever or just before the ad posted aboves date is
1954 was the first Bulova '23'
1954 - '59 IMO
Datecode will be on the Caseback, an L followed by a single digit numeral.
M if it's 1960's, which I doubt.
Date code is L6 (1956) But my book shows it as circa 1951 (page 705 left column 2nd from bottom book is 2008 complete price guide to watches) But it also just calls it "Bulova 23 date"

Book is probably wrong. Like Mark said... the 23 wasn't intro'd that early. Your L6 is your correct date brother.

Yeah thinking sometimes Cooksey has allot of errors...but that is allot of watches. I got the book from my Grandfather who passed away and left me all his watches and parts too. I just need to find a better book for some things
As far as Bulova's go... this website is probably the best book out there right now? We don't know everything but there's a pile of knowledge between everyone.
Oh yeah and I thank all of you. Saved as my favorite. I like helping when I can and getting help when I need it. I am still working on cataloging allot of my grandfather and great grandfather watch parts (NOS) they were just dumped in a big tote when I got them as they had moved just before they passed away. All still in packets and all brands and kinds allot are OEM a very hard task sometimes. But I do like the bulova watches...my current favorite is my grandfathers spaceview in 18k dated M2 (1962) He had it regulated for the new bat (he did not have the equipment to work on them)
