Keen eye. I find myself doing this when watching a movie, especially if the style jumps out at me.
Watched a 1959 "B" Sci-Fi movie this weekend called "The Angry Red Planet" about a manned mission to Mars. Inside the rocket was an elapsed time clock for days of mission.....it was a Bulova wall clock.
It was shown like 3 times - here is a screen grab.

Q: How does Barbi Benton gift Hefner a watch dated 1971 (N1) in 1969?

Unless 4/9/69 was some sort of anniversary date of their relationship , 2nd anniversary? Nevertheless, he got the Bulova watch from her,and probably wore it quite a bit when she was around.

..... or it's bogus. Would a GF model be an appropriate gift for Hef? I question its' authenticity.

Perhaps, perhaps not They were not married, and he had his money and she had hers. That's your opinion, if you want it. Perhaps there may be some old pictues or video of him from the 1970's that might show what watches he wore. I am just presenting what I found.
Otis Redding was wearing a Bulova when his plane crashed in Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin on Dec. 10th 1967. His frozen body was recovered two days later, still strapped in the co-pilot's seat wearing his Bulova. I haven't been able to find any reference to which Bulova model it could have been but I would suspect it would have been one of the Accutrons.

I found a photo of him and it shows the side profile of his watch. Looks like it had a nice metal gold bracelet
